Jeans hold up well to washing and drying. However, faded or raw denim must be cared for differently.
How to proceed:
All denim garments should be washed inside out, by hand or in the machine on a delicate cycle, with cold water. Once your machine is finished, take your jeans out of the drum immediately to avoid wrinkles. Do not put them in the tumble dryer, especially if they contain elastane.
Raw denim can easily bleed onto any light-colored surfaces, such as underwear, shirts, shoes, and furniture. So, don't just sit anywhere. For a worn-in look, wait until wear and tear has started to take effect before putting your jeans in the wash. To set the colors, the traditional method is to soak them in a cold water bath or a cold or lukewarm bath with salt and vinegar. For a faded effect, wash them more often. Always wash raw denim separately or with similar colors to prevent them from bleeding. To dry them, hang them up and cover the floor with newspaper to absorb any dripping
dye.
For true “denimheads,” the “no wash” method is standard, but if you would like advice on the patina and evolution of your denim fabric, I recommend this article: “TIPS: HOW TO WASH AND CARE FOR YOUR RAW JEANS?”
